John Goodwin started in the commercial window covering industry after graduating from college. After learning all aspects of the industry over a successful 20 years he made the bold move of going out on his own. He purchased a small company based outside of Wilmington Delaware not far from where he grew up.
In the early days, John worked alongside his brother Chas, handling everything themselves — from takeoffs to installing the finished product. Through his unwavering dedication and clear vision, Goodwin Brothers has grown into one of the nation’s leading commercial window treatment companies. John continues to lead the business today, instilling it with the same hard work, commitment, and deep-rooted family values that shaped its foundation.
In 2009, we opened our flagship Rockville office and officially launched operations in Maryland. This milestone also marked the hiring of key strategic employees who would go on to transform the company and now hold vital leadership positions. It was the beginning of a new era, laying the groundwork for the strong foundation and steady growth we continue to build on today.

Acquiring our own building and warehouse was a major milestone for our company — a true game-changer that reflects how far we’ve come. What makes it even more special is that two of our own employees took on the challenge of handling nearly all the office renovations themselves. During the COVID pandemic, we stepped up in a big way—taking on extra responsibilities and supporting our general contractor partners to keep projects moving forward. Thanks to the resilience and dedication of our team, we not only avoided layoffs but continued to grow, expanding our workforce to over 80 employees in Maryland and 15 in Delaware, emerging from a challenging time even stronger and more united.
